A Christmas Card from the Red Cross Hospital, Springburn, Glasgow. At the beginning of the war the Directors of the North British Locomotive Company decided to place the main portion of their Administration building at the disposal of the Scottish branch of the British Red Cross Society. Springburn Hospital, now North Glasgow College, was opened for patients on 24th December 1914. The hospital consisted of five large wards, administration rooms and stores, operating theatre, X-ray rooms, recreation room, bedrooms and kitchen accomodation. The resident staff included the Medical Superintendent and five assistants, the Matron, eight sisters and seventeen nurses, thirty V.A.Ds (Voluntary Aid Detachment) with cooks, maids and orderlies.
