This is a statue of Saturn attempting to eat one of his children. This statue is one of several statues on the front of Fountains Hall. Fountains Hall was originally built by Stephen Proctor between 1598 and 1604. Built during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, the architecture is styled and based on Elizabethan architect Robert Smythson. The stone of the Hall originally came from the Abbey. However, as well as the Abbey sandstone, the outer walls and statues are mainly limestone, brought in particularly the windows.
