This mark is inscribed into the stone next to a first floor window in Fountains Mill. Mason's marks were often used by the Master Mason, to identify which mason had built which part of a building. Each Mason had their own mark.
The Mill where this mark can be found, was too valuable to Henry VIII to be destroyed in the dissolution, so was saved and used to bring money to the state.
