The clock was given to my great-grandfather, who I only knew as Grandpa Wiles. He was from Horncastle and served in the 2nd 4th battalion of the Lincolnshire regiment. In 1916 they got sent to the uprising in Ireland. While there he was given this clock in 1916 at 4am at Kilmain Jail by a Capt Partridge. Capt Partridge asked him to look after it and, in case anything happened to him, to return it to his family. Grandpa Wiles then went to France and kept the clock with him. He never found the family to give it back to them, and it's stayed in my family ever since. (Andrea Martin)
