The immense size and scale of Fonthill Abbey, William Beckford's architectural wonder, is clearly seen in this incredibly rare paper and card model. Dating from c.1800 it was probably used by architect James Wyatt and the builders who constructed the ill-fated Gothic masterpiece, a building that was unlike any other house in England. The Abbey collapsed in 1825, leaving the model as one of the few reminders of what this great mansion was like.
