The head featured on this ashtray was reputedly modelled on Charles Frederick Peace, one of Britain's most notorious murderers. He was executed at Leeds in 1879 for the murder of a policeman.
Linthorpe Art Pottery was produced in Middlesbrough between 1879 and 1889.
