This professionally taken photograph is of the contributor's mother, Anna Josephine Kerr, who emigrated to Philadelphia in 1929. The photograph shows the fashions of the time, notably the shoes, dress and hairstyle. As a dressmaker she would probably have drawn a sketch of this dress from a magazine and made her own version, as it is unlikely she could have afforded an original.
