Communion tokens were issued to those who were allowed to take the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The Kirk Session decided who should not receive a token. This very early token is dated 1703 and is for Rothesay Parish. Bute Museum holds a collection of communion tokens for Rothesay Parish. the final issue was struck in 1860.
