This is the crest of the Aislabie family, who once owned the Studley Royal Estate. The crest features a small red head, thought to be that of the Pan, the Roman God of Flocks and Shepherds. The modern day word "Panic" is thought to originate from the name Pan.
The gates on which the crest adorns, were originally found in a local blacksmiths, and were found and restored in their original position, next to Studley Lake.
