Shillelagh owned by Daniel O'Connell the Irish Liberator, after whom O'Connell Street in Dublin is named.
It was left to my grandmother, and then to me, by his granddaughter. She was a devout Roman Catholic and had come to England and chose to lodge with my grandmother in, Sidcup, Kent, because the house was close to a Roman Catholic Church.
