This Carnival Ware glass bowl depicts an airship flying over the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. It was bought in Bruges by James Doy during WW1; just after the Zeppelin raids took place on Hull. He served on a "Q Ship"; secretly armed trawlers that were used to destroy German U-Boats. Mr Doy was later killed in action in the latter stages of the war.

What an amazing, heroic and poignant story. The bowl is a great piece of (what is now) very collectible pressed glass, known as Carnival Glass. This piece was made in the USA by the Dugan-Diamond Glass Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania. The pattern is called ?Brooklyn Bridge? by today?s collectors ? there is a very rare version without the ?Brooklyn Bridge? lettering.
