The contributor's father worked in North Dakota where his great-uncle had a ranch. His father travelled to Dakota from Belfast via Liverpool in 1903 on the RMS Carpathia. This is his saddle enscribed with his name - Peter McQuillan. As far as we know he had the saddle made especially for him. His son has restored the saddle, describing it as a labour of love.
