This horned man is one of a series of three, which adorn the front of the Banqueting House. The three men represent the emotions of Hatred, Malice and Envy. The Banqueting House was built for the purpose of eating desserts in it. Therefore, these three emotions were supposed to be left outside the door before entering.
The Banqueting House overlooks the Water Garden and was built as a replica of other similar buildings seen across Europe. Another Georgian folly, this building was cleverly built so that it appeared bigger from a distance. When the weather was less favourable, the guests would be taken by horse and cart, from the main house, to the Banqueting House to eat dessert.
