Royalty, and the acknowledgement and respect shown to it, were dominating themes in the life of people in Bath in the 19th century. This black mourning dress of Queen Victoria from the Fashion Museum takes us back to a period in Bath's life that saw the founding of the Victoria Art Gallery in 1897. Royal Victoria Park had previously been named in her honour when she was an eleven year old princess in 1830.
