Children from Dornoch Primary School created this collage to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the sinking of the Meikle Ferry. This ferry sank in 1809 on its journey from the north side of the Dornoch Firth across to the south for the market at Tain. It sank with the loss of 99 lives and had a devastating affect on the local community with many families left destitute. A fund was set up to help these families with contributions from as far afield as India, South Africa and the West Indies where there were connections with the Highland Regiments.
