This lump of coal from the Wyndham/Western Colliery, Ogmore Vale was the last caol mined from the valley as the last colliery shut in 1983.
The Wyndham Colliery part of the combined Wyndham/Western mine was opened in 1865 by John Brogden & Sons to fuel their Tondu Ironworks & Brickworks and was "the reason" the Ogmore Valley was developed from a farming community in 1865 of approx 30 souls to several thousand in the 1890`s.
