These surviving fragments are all that can now be seen of the balustrade that once enclosed the central space of Queen Square. The fragments feature a carved illustration that shows the original lay-out of the garden in the middle of Queen Square. One of the fragments has an inscription showing the exact date when the balustrading was removed - 8 August 1775. They provide tangible evidence for how the city has changed since the eighteenth century.
