Issued at the same time as the now famous Penny Black stamp were decorated postal stationery envelopes designed by William Mulready RA. These came in one penny and two-penny values. Only three two-penny blue envelopes used on the first day, 6 May 1840, are known to have survived. This rare example was posted in Bath to a Miss Isobel Tudor at Kelston Knowle. She was married later that year proving the authenticity of the date.
