This item is from a defining period in 20th century history. It is a porcelain insulator and piece of barbed stainless steel alarm wire from the Berlin Wall.
I obtained it in 1999 when the wall was being dismantled.
It makes me think about the time when Europe was divided both physically and politically. The fall of the wall brought about great changes in Germany which is my particular interest. The changes brought about a social turmoil in the east of Germany and financial disquiet in the west.
