LOSTWITHIEL MUSEUM. These Gorsedd robes belonged to Mr R. Santo. Known as Lavorick or son of Lanlivery, the robes were worn in 1989 at the Gorsedd which celebrated the 800th anniversary of Lostwithiel.
The Cornish revival movement closely emulated the Welsh Gorsedd and the first Cornish Gorsedd was held at the stone circle of Boscawen Euny in 1928. It included amongst its members such luminaries as Robert Morton Nance who was a co-founder of the first Old Cornwall Society at St Ives as well. Nance opted for a Grand Bard to head the Cornish Gorsedd rather than an Archdruid as in the Welsh Gorsedd. By 1930 candidates for bardship could take an exam in his Cornish unified language or literature. In 1934, Morton Nance succeeded Henry Jenner as Grand Bard.
