This 78 rpm record was made at what was I believe a time of awareness and belief in the class structure of Great Britain and so a willingness to buy such an object. I could comment about the possibility of misplaced patriotism in the few short years that followed the coronation but perhaps this isn't the place.
As the result of my maiden aunt going into an old people's home, I was bequeathed a lot of records, mostly of popular music of the 1920 period which I transferred to reel to reel tape but this one I kept partly because it was thicker and seemed more robust but also because it carried history on its labels.
There will perhaps be a time when, ignoring our later recording methods, someone in the future will place this disc, perhaps by accident, on a rotating wagon wheel, hopefully in the correct direction,apply a hawthorne needle to it and hear the most strident noise issue from it.
On one side, a little decipherable, is God Save the King, Rule Britannia and The British Grenadiers (Black Diamonds Band)and the other carries Coronation March (Black Diamonds Band), God Bless the Prince of Wales and Hearts of Oak, the last two are solo and chorus.
