Evode Chemical Products, Stafford was established in 1938. The company originally manufactured shoe polish.Evo-Stik was produced by Evode in Stafford. The company has a long history and was formally Dove Polishes and Spic and Span Shoe Polishes, supporting the large shoe industry in the town. Evo-Stik was exported across the globe. Evo-Stik was a key product for keen DIY enthusiasts from the 1970s and 1980s. Evode Chemical Products was established in 1938 by German chemist Dr Hermann Simon. He was a Jewish emigre and was interned in 1940 by the British Government. The company made representations to the Government and Dr Simon was released. He continued to run the company until 1978. Evode is now owned by Bostik and is still based on Common Road, Stafford.

Barry Bucknell made it look so easy in his 1960s TV programmes - brush on the impact adhesive (we all knew he meant Evo-Stik), wait a few minutes and push the parts together. It worked - and still does.
