A gold ring with a garnet setting.
The meaning of the inscription on the band is not clear. It may be a love token or it may be magical.
This inscription has intrigued experts at the British Museum who studied the ring when it went through the Treasure process. The letters of the inscription don't make sense some of them are up-side down or the wrong way round.
Why would someone go to the trouble of getting words carefully engraved on a ring that are apparently meaningless?
The most likely answers are either than it was a secret code between lovers - one of the words looks very much like the French word 'amour' meaning love. Or, that the words have some magical significance. We shall never know for certain, but the mystery adds to the attraction of this beautiful ring
