Thought to be the first specialist gaslight in Bath, this
unusual object was originally made for the first Masonic
Hall in Bath, now the Friends Meeting House in York
Street. It was one of many lavish and expensive fittings
purchased for the dedication of the building by the Duke
of Sussex in 1819, and one of the very few that were not
subsequently lost in the internal wranglings that followed
over the next 25 years.
