Illuminated Bible from Evesham Abbey

The abbey at Evesham is the reason the town stands as it does today on the banks of the River Avon: this bible was created by the monks of the abbey and each page contains handwritten contemporary notes in addition to the text. One page is of particular importance as it contains an eye-witness account of the moment of closure for the abbey, when Henry VIII's soldiers marched in and ordered the monks to leave.
